Teeth Whitening Perth WA
Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic dentistry treatment currently available
Many of our regular eating and drinking habits can affect the colour of our teeth, turning them a dull grey or yellow colour. Many patients feel that this makes their smile less attractive and are interested in restoring their smile to its original gleaming white. Luckily teeth whitening is available at Access Dental Care!
Cosmetic discolouration can be caused by:
- Tea, coffee, red wine
- Certain medications
If any of the above is the cause of your tooth discolouration, Access Dental Care can help.
How does teeth whitening work?
When you visit Access Dental Care in Perth for a tooth whitening treatment, one of our dentists will assess your oral health. Prior to treatment we will conduct a scale and clean and assess the causes of your discolouration. If we find the discolouration is due to decay or an infected tooth, a teeth whitening treatment will not be able to restore the colour. Instead, another treatment will be recommended.
If the examination deems your discolouration cosmetic, you will be presented with two options, in-office or take-home. Teeth whitening uses a specialised whitening gel applied directly to your teeth. Depending upon the option you choose this gel may also be activated by a specialised light to help the process.
In just one to two hours we can whiten your teeth up to 8 shades. This is done by a relatively simple three-step procedure:
- A rubber coating will protect your gums, leaving your teeth exposed.
- A gel will be applied to your teeth. Then a laser light will activate the gel.
- After a time, usually an hour or two, the gel and protective coating are removed.
There are occasions when we will provide you with an at-home kit to help you maintain your whiter smile.
The benefit of a home whitening kit from a dentist is we keep your oral health front of mind. A home whitening kit from a dentist involves making custom-made whitening trays. This is done by taking impressions of your teeth and sending those impressions to our lab where your custom trays are made. Then when we receive them, you come in for your next appointment and we walk you through the whitening process.
At-home teeth whitening will take around 2 weeks before you see results. It is also important to note that this is not a permanent option. You will need to maintain your oral hygiene and repeat the process after a year/year and a half.
