Coping with dental anxiety
Gentle dental care
The team at Access Dental Care are completely committed to providing the most gentle dental care possible. We understand that the idea of the dentist can be off-putting or uncomfortable for some patients, in response we have made patient care our priority. If at any stage during your appointment you feel uncomfortable or anxious simply let a team member know, and we can stop and have a break.
Our dental team has extensive skills and experience dealing with general dentistry treatments all the way through to more complex restorative or cosmetic treatments. Our modern facilities with the latest in dental techniques and technologies make each dental treatment as gentle and pain-free as possible. While we cannot guarantee every treatment will be pain-free, we can guarantee that our team will treat you with an exceptional level of care and precision minimising any discomfort as much as possible.
If you have a fear of visiting the dentist because of previous bad experience or you find the idea off-putting, we can help. Access Dental Care in Perth offer sedation options to help make you more comfortable and relaxed at your next dental appointment. It is better to have treatment under sedation than neglect your oral health all together.
What types of sedation options are available?
At Access Dental Care in Perth we offer a range of sedation options:
Oral conscious sedation
An oral sedative to be taken as directed by the dentist. These don’t relieve pain but do make you feel more relaxed and drowsy. This means you’ll be well relaxed when our dentist administers the local anaesthetic.
This will make you drowsy so you will need to get someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
As its name might suggest, this sedative only numbs the area that needs to be treated. Prior to the local anaesthetic injection, an anaesthetic gel is applied to the area where the injection’s going to be administered. When you have local anaesthetic you will be fully conscious and should not feel the effects of the treatment.
General anaesthetic is used for oral surgery and patients who aren’t eligible for sedation dentistry. This will put you to sleep for a couple of hours and you will feel drowsy after the procedure. If you go under general anaesthesia you will need someone to drive you home.
